Oh yes, forget what you thought you knew about the cancelled games of the Legacy of Kain series, a member of the Neogaf forum (Mama Robotnik) has done some research and found ten games that possibly never made it past early development.
The ‘would be’ (and released games are):
Cancelled: Pillars of Nosgoth (Panasonic 3DO) (1994)
Released: Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen (PS1/PC) (1996)
Cancelled: Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen Enhanced (Sega Saturn) (1996)
Cancelled: Sirens (PC) (1997)
Cancelled: Kain (A)II (PS1) (1997)
Cancelled: Kain (B) II (PS1) (1997)
Cancelled: Shifter (PS1) (1998)
Released: Soul Reaver (PS1/Dreamcast/PC) (1999)
Cancelled: Soul Reaver 2 (PS1) (2000)
Cancelled: Chakan II: The Forever man(Dreamcast) (2000)
Released: Soul Reaver 2 (PS2/PC) (2001)
Released: Blood Omen 2 (PS2/Gamecube/Xbox/PC) (2002)
Released: Legacy of Kain; Defiance (PS2/Xbox/PC) (2003)
Cancelled: Legacy of Kain; The Dark Prophecy (PS2) (2004)
Cancelled: Legacy of Kain; Dead Sun (PS3/360/PC/PS4)
One game that was cancelled that has always ‘got to me’ is Dark Prophecy.
According to the research, the game was only in production for four months (if that). But if that wasn’t the metaphorical ‘boot in the nuts’ there was another game in development for twelve months called ‘Dead Sun’.
They had even gotten as far as early cutscene development (basic models, but not full of detail).

It’s certainly an interesting read.
Back to today, and Square Enix have confirmed a game called ‘Nosgoth’.
This is the most information that has been released:
1. SE respect that the series is canon and it is something that they take very seriously.
2. ‘Nosgoth’ is NOT a mobile game
3. ‘Nosgoth’ IS online
4. ‘Nosgoth’ is NOT open-world
5. They’re influenced mostly by SR1 (Soul Reaver), but it doesn’t mean that the gameplay will be like SR1. ‘Nosgoth’ IS going to be a multiplayer game.
6. ‘Nosgoth’ has been built as a LoK game from the ‘ground up’; it is NOT a rebranding of an unrelated concept.
(That information was on the LoK: Dark Chronicle Facebook page. It was originally posted on the Eidos forums by a SE London Studio’s Community Manager).
And speaking of that person (Monkeythumbz), they’ve also posted some more concept art (Dead Sun) at the Eidos forums: http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=138080&page=3
I’ve also just found this on the OXM UK magazine (it was posted back in February):

Just a quick note too, there is a petition going for a Legacy of Kain HD Collection to be released.
