A few months later, here I am again reviewing Ultimate Marvel V Capcom 3, the same game... but with a bit more.
Where to start? Well, for me, that's easy... IT HAS VERGIL!
I've got to be honest and say that he was the only reason that I bought it :D (of course.)
I did receive this on release day, but because my butt has been handed to me on a plate so often, I haven't had time to do a review.
So, before I get to Vergil, let me start with the biggest pain in the bum... GALACTUS!
I found that Galactus is more difficult in this version than in the original version of the game.
Thanks to him, I have only beaten the games three times. Which is utter rubbish... :/
And do you know what the worst and embarrassing thing is.... I'm playing the game on the very easy difficulty :(
Now, i can't remember what stuff was included in the original Marvel V Capcom 3 game, but in UMVC3, there is an Offline Mode, Online Mode, Gallery and Galactus mode.
Galactus mode can either be unlocked when you have the right amount of player points, or if you already has a game save of Marvel V Capcom 3 on your hard drive (/memory card... whatever).
In Galactus mode, you play as the evil tyrant himself. It's Six stages of fighting against teams made and controlled by the CPU. When you have completed the last round Galactus will tear the worlds apart. You can use all of his moves that he uses against you.
I can't review Online mode, because basically... I don't have Online play. But, basically, you can play against strangers or friends (and possibly be insulted for being rubbish).
Offline mode consists of Arcade, Training, a 2 player mode (where you can fight someone sitting next to you instead of online) and a Mission mode.
Mission mode was included in the first game. It gives you a task and you have to clear the mission by using the right moves (one move, combo or combo with cancel).
Now, my fingers don't really move that fast for combos (to be honest, I genuinely press buttons and hope for the best. Seriously.) So I've genuinely sucked at mission mode (although i have completed two Vergil missions).
The game has twelve new characters added to the roster, but Jill Valentine and Shuma Gorath are still Download only. If you download the two DLC characters, the roster totals 50 (yes, 50) characters.
One of the new characters who, in my opinion, I think is a bit lame is Phoenix Wright. One of his attacks is a sneeze... it's funny, but it can put you off your game (i should know). He can also throw files (believe it or not, that was something i joked about a few months before the game was released.)
A rumor was going around that Rocket Raccoon was Vergil's rival... however in the opening sequence, he is fighting Wolverine :D Whether he has any dealings with Rocket Raccoon in the Raccoon's ending is something I'll have to verify when i complete the game with RR (actually, that should be when I complete the game with RR.) Although looking at Vergil's Ending sequence, It could be Wolverine.
I've unlocked some titles for the UMVC3 License card (including Vergil ones). The first time that I completed the game was with Vergil and I got the 'Devil in a blue coat' trophy (or it could be 'Devil in the blue coat'), and what with the missions, i'm pretty much all Vergil'd out (if that makes sense.)
The only thing is Capcom have made Vergil more of a meanie, I suspect it's how Capcom would've like Vergil to have been portrayed originally in Devil May Cry 3.
I've also completed the game with Crimson Viper and Albert Wesker.
The game also lets you unlock endings and artwork. You can also view character bios, stages, concepts, and the MarvelV Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds comic.
PROS:
- Twelve characters added to the roster
- A new mode (Galactus), for when you feel the need to eat a planet or two.
- New Trophies/achievements.
CONS:
- Galactus can be a little difficult to beat... okay, he can be a pain in a certain part of the anatomy to beat.
-To obtain certain trophies, you have to play online (IMO, i don't like it)
VeeBee'sScore: 9.5 /10
(I scored the original 9/10, the point 5 is JUST for Vergil!)
